Café Orca, Melkbos

Our story

A little beach cottage, a lot of fresh fish, and over 25 years of sunsets.

Café Orca opened on the Melkbosstrand beachfront in 1997. Since that humble beginning we’ve kept refining the same three things: the atmosphere, the service and the menu.

The seafood specialists

Think local mussels, calamari and prawn starters, then the ever-popular, freshly caught line fish — grilled with lemon butter, kicked up with Cajun spice, or dressed in Moroccan harissa, Thai yellow curry or a rich blue cheese sauce.

Our ingredients are sourced locally wherever we can, and everything is cooked to order. It’s why Eat Out wrote that here, unlike at so many seafood restaurants, “all the fish tastes delightfully different.”

That view

Sit outside on the beachfront patio under the reed roof, or inside the cottage. Either way you get arguably the best views Melkbosstrand has to offer, and on a clear evening, a sunset that stops conversations mid-sentence.

“What a great location, with good food and great service. Terrance was our waiter and he was fantastic. The food was really superb.”
